چکیده

Understanding the effect of temperature on the speciation of multivalent metals in solution is essential for many applications in industry. The results of the present Cu(II) and Zn(II) solutions speciation studies in tandem with thermodynamic calculations have shown that Cu or Zn ions proliferate in acidic solutions whilst in alkaline medium, solid Cu(OH)2 or Zn(OH)2 colloidal particles form. The extent of metal hydroxide precipitation accentuates with increasing Cu(II) and Zn(II) concentrations or temperature in the manner predicted by thermodynamic modelling. More solid Cu(OH)2 and Zn(OH)2 is formed and precipitates with increased temperature. The influence of temperature and concentration on the hydrolysis of Cu(II) and Zn(II) species, specific adsorption of the hydrolysis products and surface nucleation onto silica particles are shown to have a striking impact on the zeta potential at high pH.

The Development of a Novel, Selective Desulfurization Process

The desulfurization of gas streams using aqueous iron(II)sulfate (Fe(II)SO4), zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) and copper sulfate (CuSO4) solutions as washing liquor is studied theoretically and experimentally. The desulfurization is accomplished by a precipitation reaction that occurs when sulfide ions and metal ions are brought into contact with each other. A thermodynamic study has been used to determin...

Thermodynamic Modeling and Experimental Studies of Bayerite Precipitation from Aluminate Solution: Temperature and pH Effect

Bayerite is one of the phases of aluminum hydroxide which is precipitated by the carbonation of aluminate solutions obtained from sintered nepheline syenite leaching. In this study, the conditions for the bayerite formation were predicted by thermodynamic modeling of the carbonation process and the Bromley- Zemaitis model was used for this purpose. Carbonation experiments were carried out a...

The European Journal of Mineral Processing and Environmental Protection

Ferrite grade zinc oxide was prepared through aqueous processing of zinc ash followed by calcination. Zinc was quantitatively dissolved in sulphuric acid medium. The ferrous iron present in the leach solution was oxidised with hydrogen peroxide followed by precipitation of total iron by pH adjustment to 4.5 with dilute sodium hydroxide solution. Copper was removed by cementation using zinc dust...

MgCaFe-layered double hydroxide (LDH) for congo red dye removal in aqueous solution

In this work, the ability of the MgCaFe- Layered double hydroxide (LDH) for congo red (CR) dye removal in aqueous solution was investigated. Various parameters such as initial dye concentrations, temperature, adsorbent dosage, pH effect and agitation rate were examined and optimal conditions (10 mgL-1 of the dye concentration, 25 °C of temperature, 0.5 gL-1 of the adsorbent dosage, pH~7 and 450...
